Additionally, various deductions come into play for the net pay, especially the Provident Fund (PF), Professional Tax (PT) and Income Tax under the TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) regime.

Gross Pay Calculation

Basic Salary: This is a fixed component and forms the base of other allowances and benefits. 

The allowances can include:

House Rent Allowance (HRA): is Often calculated as a percentage of the basic salary and its actual exemption can depend on the city of residence.

Dearness Allowance (DA): Linked to the Consumer Price Index and helps cushion against inflation. More common in public sector jobs.

Others: Travel/Transport Allowance, Medical Allowance, Special Allowances, etc.

The benefits could be: 

Bonus: Usually a yearly affair, either as a fixed amount or a percentage of the basic salary.

For example, If an employee has a basic salary of ₹30,000, HRA of ₹10,000 and other allowances amounting to ₹5,000, the Gross Pay will be:

Net Pay Calculation

Your gross pay is calculated above. Now, let us calculate the net pay after all deductions. 

1. Provident Fund: Mandatory contribution for organisations with over 20 employees. The employer and the employee contribute a certain percentage (typically 12%) of the basic wage towards this fund.

For a basic salary of ₹30,000: Employee's PF contribution = 12% of ₹30,000 = ₹3,600.

2. Professional Tax: This is levied by certain states and is based on gross income slabs. The amount varies from state to state.

In Maharashtra, if the monthly gross salary is ₹45,000, the PT could be ₹200 (this is a general figure and can change based on state regulations).

3. Income Tax: Calculated based on the income tax slabs provided by the government every fiscal year. The employer deducts this based on projected annual income and proof of investments the employee provides.

If TDS deduction for the month is ₹2,000. Considering the above deductions, if the gross pay is ₹45,000: 

Net Pay = ₹45,000 (Gross Pay) - ₹3,600 (PF) - ₹200 (PT) - ₹2,000 (TDS) = ₹39,200.

The salaries change yearly, so the calculations differ with additional benefits and deductions.
